CurrentReport Blog Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has signed the state’s N1.1 trillion 2025 budget into law, marking a significant step toward the state’s developmental goals.

Speaking on Thursday during the signing ceremony, Governor Fubara commended the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Rivers State House of Assembly for its dedication to ensuring the swift passage of the budget. He reaffirmed that the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly remains the only recognized legislative body in the state.

The governor’s remarks follow the disqualification of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara declared their legislative status void, stating that their recent attempts to recant their actions were insufficient.

Fubara emphasized:

“After granting the Amaewhule group ample time to reconsider their stance, the decision to disqualify them is final and irreversible. No governor in Nigeria has endured the level of disrespect I have endured. My focus remains on steering Rivers State toward greater accomplishments.”

The N1.1 trillion appropriation bill, presented last week to the Assembly, will guide spending until December 31, 2025. It contains 12 sections addressing key areas of governance, infrastructure, and social development.

The governor also reiterated his commitment to maintaining stability in Rivers State, despite ongoing tensions with former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
