Governor Umo Eno Urges Citizens to Safeguard Public Infrastructure Amid Commissioning of Key Projects in Akwa Ibom State

CurrentReport Blog Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a stern warning to the residents of the state, urging them to refrain from vandalizing essential facilities meant for public use. The caution came during the commissioning ceremony of significant infrastructural developments in Uyo, the state capital.

During the event, which marked the unveiling of a 1.3-kilometer underground concrete flood control tunnel, alongside the reconstruction of vital road sections complete with walkways, drainage systems, and solar street lighting, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of community ownership and protection of these projects. He challenged the youth to take responsibility for safeguarding the facilities within their vicinity, stressing that the funds utilized for these developments were drawn from the collective resources of the people.

In his address, Governor Eno reiterated the detrimental impact of vandalism on public infrastructure, emphasizing that such actions directly undermine the progress and well-being of the community. He urged citizens to step forward and discourage any acts of destruction, reminding them that the preservation of government property is synonymous with safeguarding their own interests.

The Governor further highlighted the significance of the commissioned projects, describing them as a response to the pressing needs and concerns expressed by the populace. Notably, the interventions, including the Atiku Abubakar Road and drainage systems, were hailed as essential measures to mitigate the effects of flooding and enhance the overall livability of the urban landscape.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who graced the occasion, commended Governor Eno for his proactive approach in addressing critical issues such as flood management. He called upon the people of Akwa Ibom State to remain vigilant against antisocial elements and protect public infrastructure from acts of vandalism.

Providing an overview of the completed project, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, underscored its adherence to specifications and its potential to alleviate flooding in the area, thereby revitalizing the urban environment.
