A group has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to stop the House of Representatives from acquiring and distributing 360 SUVs to its members. The group’s request for an injunction comes in response to reports that lawmakers are planning to buy these vehicles, valued at a total of N57.6 billion, with each SUV costing taxpayers at least N160 million.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) brought attention to these developments, expressing concerns over the legality and transparency of the expenditure. In their legal applications, SERAP is calling for a temporary halt on the purchase and distribution of the SUVs by the National Assembly until the court has an opportunity to thoroughly review the matter. SERAP also addressed an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging his intervention to prevent the delivery of the SUVs to lawmakers until the court has made a final decision. This action is driven by the desire to uphold the rule of law and ensure that legal proceedings remain fair and impartial.
