CurrentReport Blog In a recent development, Hervé Renard has declared his financial terms to take over as the head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles. According to OgaNla Media, Renard, who was approached by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has demanded a hefty salary of $125,000 per month. This figure is reportedly far beyond what the NFF can afford, raising concerns about the feasibility of his appointment.
Another strong contender for the position, Tom Saintfiet, has set his salary expectations at $100,000 monthly. This is still significantly higher than the NFF’s current financial capacity. The NFF and the Sports Ministry have previously struggled to meet the $50,000 monthly salary of former coach Jose Peseiro. Additionally, they have been unable to pay less than $20,000 per month to Randy Waldrum, the coach of the Super Falcons.
Given these financial challenges, the demands from Renard and Saintfiet have brought Eric Chelle back into the spotlight as a potential candidate. Despite his basic English proficiency, Chelle impressed during the interviews, making him a viable option to replace Finidi George.
The NFF faces a tough decision as it weighs the financial implications of hiring a new head coach against the need for strong leadership for the Super Eagles.
