CurrentReport Blog In a decisive move to protect Nigeria’s oil wealth, the House of Representatives Special Committee on Crude Oil Thefts has issued a stern warning to those engaging in sabotage. The committee’s chairman, Alhaji Ado Alhassan Doguwa, emphasized that anyone caught undermining the country’s vital oil sector will be dealt with harshly.
In a statement, Doguwa expressed concern over the severe economic impact of these criminal activities, particularly their role in forcing the Tinubu administration and the APC-led government to resort to global borrowing. He stressed the urgency of addressing these issues, which he attributed largely to youth restiveness and the “unacceptable vandalisation of our critical infrastructure by vandals and criminals in the creeks.”
Doguwa revealed that the committee was specifically tasked by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, to investigate and identify the root causes of the ongoing challenges in the oil and gas sector. “The committee vows to do all it takes to save the present Tinubu-led administration from these unfortunate happenings in the oil-producing areas,” he stated. “We will make sure the committee brings to book the culprits and their political cohorts.”
This warning comes as part of a broader effort by the Nigerian government to clamp down on the activities that have significantly hampered the country’s oil production and revenue. The committee’s resolve to take swift and decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding its critical oil resources and ensuring that the sector operates efficiently and securely.
As the committee continues its work, it remains focused on identifying the key players behind these sabotage efforts and ensuring that justice is served. The message is clear: any individual or group found guilty of compromising Nigeria’s oil wealth will face severe consequences.
