CurrentReport Blog Former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest footballer of all time and the finest player to ever wear the Real Madrid jersey. Casillas, who played alongside Ronaldo during his time at the Spanish giants, made this declaration in a video interview with 90Min.
In the interview, Casillas praised Ronaldo’s incredible talent and consistency, stating that the Portuguese icon surpasses even former France international, Zinedine Zidane, in greatness. Casillas also ranked former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos above legendary figures like Roberto Carlos, Xabi Alonso, Kaká, Luka Modric, Raúl, and Luís Figo, before ultimately choosing Zidane in a head-to-head comparison of midfield greats.
However, when asked to pick between Zidane and Ronaldo, Casillas firmly selected the former Manchester United and Juventus star as the superior player.
“These things happen in stages. Cristiano sells a lot and demands a lot of himself. Along with Lionel Messi, he is the best in the world. He has this responsibility,” Casillas said via Goal.
Casillas went on to reflect on Ronaldo’s success during his Real Madrid tenure, which saw the Portuguese forward win multiple Champions League titles and numerous individual accolades. “He must continue trying to be the player he is, the best in the world,” Casillas added, emphasizing the importance of the support system around Ronaldo during his time at the club.
