Imo State Independent Electoral Commission Denies Publication of Candidate List Ahead of September 21 LGA Elections

CurrentReport Blog The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has refuted recent media reports suggesting that it has released the list of candidates for the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections scheduled for September 21, 2024.

In a press statement, the Chairman of ISIEC, Charles Ejiogu, labeled the report as “misleading and mischievous,” urging the public and political parties to disregard the false claims. Ejiogu clarified that the Commission is committed to transparency, and any official candidate list will only be published after thorough validation of all candidates’ personal details, in line with legal requirements.

The ISIEC chairman reassured the public that the Commission remains focused on conducting a fair and transparent electoral process. He condemned the spread of false information, stating that it has the potential to disrupt the Commission’s work.

Political parties and their candidates have been urged to await official communications and to dismiss any rumors, which Ejiogu described as “blatant falsehood.”
