CurrentReport Blog In a bid to dissuade the people of Imo State from joining the nationwide protest and cushion the effect of soaring prices of food items, the state government, in collaboration with the federal government, has announced another round of palliative distribution among Imo residents.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, during a recent stakeholder meeting, revealed that approximately 17,000 bags of rice are set for distribution across the 305 electoral wards in the state, starting Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
Governor Uzodinma emphasized that while this initiative is a temporary measure to alleviate hunger and mitigate the rising cost of food items, it also buys the government time to find a lasting solution to the problem. He reassured residents that the ultimate goal of his administration is to create an enabling environment for job creation, thereby reducing poverty to its barest minimum.
The distribution process is designed to be equitable, ensuring that all electoral wards in the state receive an equal share of the palliatives. Chief Maduba, another key figure in the initiative, disclosed that the consignment will first be handed over to the Local Government Areas (LGAs) for onward distribution to the wards. He highlighted that the state government has arranged for the transportation of the items with adequate security measures in place.
Furthermore, the Agriculture Commissioner announced that a committee has been constituted by the governor to oversee the distribution process, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the delivery of the palliatives to the residents.
This move comes as a strategic effort by the Imo State government to support its residents during these challenging times, aiming to curb potential unrest while seeking long-term solutions to the economic challenges faced by the people.
