CURRENT REPORT BLOG INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has charged the newly sworn-in Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Etekamba Umore, to maintain impartiality in the execution of his responsibilities. The directive was revealed in a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC. Umoren, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, has been deployed to Delta State following the expiration of the tenure of the previous officeholder on January 29, 2024. Mahmood urged the new REC to strictly adhere to his oath of office, emphasizing the importance of neutrality and impartiality. Additionally, he encouraged Umoren to observe the commission’s Code of Conduct and engage in regular consultations with stakeholders in the discharge of his duties.
The Tuesday statement followed the regular weekly meeting of the commission, which included the swearing-in of Mr. Etekamba Udo Umoren as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Delta State. Umoren, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Benin, previously served in various capacities in the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, attaining the position of Permanent Secretary.
