CURRENT REPORT BLOG Israel Adesanya, the former UFC middleweight champion, has pled guilty to charges stemming from drunk driving in his native New Zealand. On August 19, Adesanya was pulled over by authorities and found to have 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in his system, surpassing New Zealand’s legal limit of 50 milligrams. Adesanya’s encounter with a Random Breath Testing unit in Auckland occurred after he had dinner with friends, as reported by his team to ESPN.
For this offense, Adesanya could potentially face a fine of up to $2,680 and/or a prison sentence of three months, according to ESPN.
In a statement provided to ESPN, Adesanya expressed remorse, stating, “I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at a dinner. I am disappointed with my decision to drive; it was wrong. I know that people might follow me, and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.”
