CurrentReport Blog In a bid to alleviate the plight of the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan, the Jigawa State Government has earmarked N2.83 billion for a special Iftar feeding program. The initiative aims to provide sustenance for the poor and vulnerable segments of society, as disclosed by Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information.
During the State Executive Council meeting held recently, the decision was unanimously reached in response to the escalating food prices gripping the nation. The allocated funds will facilitate the provision of meals to approximately 182,700 individuals daily through 609 feeding centers across the state. Notably, special attention will be given to establishing dedicated feeding centers in each of the state’s 10 tertiary institutions.
The feeding program, spanning three weeks, seeks to benefit an estimated 3.8 million vulnerable persons throughout the Ramadan period. Additionally, the Executive Council has allocated N1.125 billion for the emergency procurement of rice and spaghetti, ensuring adequate food supply across the state.
