CurrentReport Blog Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a 60-day detention period for Ibrahim Nasiru, a suspected terrorist, to allow the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct a thorough investigation into the numerous allegations against him. The detention order, which begins on August 27, was issued on Tuesday after the DSS presented an ex-parte application before the court.
The application was argued by Barrister Yunusa Idris Umar, representing the DSS, who informed the court that Nasiru was apprehended on July 29. Initially, the suspect was brought before a Magistrate Court in Abuja, where an order for his detention was first obtained.
However, the DSS found it necessary to extend the detention for further investigation due to Nasiru’s alleged involvement in various terror activities.
While the specific details of the allegations were not disclosed in the open court for security reasons, the DSS lawyer emphasized the importance of the detention in the interest of national security.
After reviewing the evidence presented, Justice Lifu ruled in favor of the DSS, granting a 60-day detention period for the suspect to undergo further interrogation and investigation.
