CurrentReport Blog The Kremlin has announced that it has no immediate plans to congratulate U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on his recent election victory, highlighting the strained relations between Russia and the United States. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the decision, noting that Moscow views the U.S. as an “unfriendly country” due to its support of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
Peskov stated that U.S.-Russia relations are currently at a “historically low” point, adding that while Moscow is monitoring developments, there is little hope for improved ties under current circumstances. “The situation between our two nations is such that it’s hard to imagine it getting any worse,” he said, emphasizing that Russia sees the U.S. as being “directly and indirectly involved in a war against our state.”
Despite Trump’s previous efforts during his first term to strengthen U.S.-Russia relations, it remains unclear how his upcoming term might influence the situation, particularly regarding the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris has received widespread congratulations from global leaders, but Russia’s reserved response stands out as a significant exception.
