CurrentReport Blog There are strong indications that two prominent Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirants in Anambra State, George Moghalu and John Nwosu, may hold discussions to harmonize their interests ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2025 election.

Both aspirants, who hail from Nnewi town in Nnewi North Local Government Area, are vying for the Labour Party ticket for the election scheduled for November this year.

Moghalu, the immediate past Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), hinted at the possibility during a press conference at his residence on Wednesday.

Describing Nwosu as a close ally, Moghalu emphasized the importance of unity to protect Nnewi’s political interests and avoid unnecessary competition.

“He (Nwosu) is my brother and friend, in fact, my in-law. Nothing is cast in iron, and we have a good personal relationship. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us meeting and discussing, so that we don’t waste resources and time,” Moghalu said.

He further stated:

“We need to work together to actualize the Nnewi dream. It is not impossible to meet. Politics is about human dynamics, so I have no problem with that. Even the party constitution provides for such discussions to ensure things work out well.

“What is important is that we want Labour Party to form the government of the state, so we are working together on this.”

Moghalu, however, reiterated his commitment to contesting the governorship position, expressing confidence in his ability to replace Governor Chukwuma Soludo and set Anambra State on a path of development.

Both Moghalu and Nwosu are expected to meet in the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen the Labour Party’s position ahead of the 2025 governorship election.
