CurrentReport Blog Anambra State Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant, John Nwosu, has rejected the emergence of Dr. George Moghalu as the party’s candidate for the upcoming November election. Nwosu also refuted claims of his involvement in the party’s primary election, which took place on Saturday in Awka, where Moghalu was declared the winner.

In a press release issued by the Director General of the John Nwosu Campaign Organization, Ben Chuks Nwosu, it was stated that Nwosu did not participate in the election and had stepped down from the race prior to the event due to alleged irregularities in the compilation of the delegates’ list.

The statement read, “The attention of John Nwosu Campaign Organization has been drawn to the purported allocation of some votes to our principal, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, at the April 5th Labour Party primary election. He did not participate in person or by proxy.”

Nwosu’s campaign organization emphasized that his withdrawal from the election was based on credible concerns about the legitimacy of the process, specifically pointing to manipulations in the delegates’ list. The release continued: “The election lacked legitimacy, contrary to the intent of the Supreme Court judgment that had sacked the National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure.”

Nwosu further clarified that he had formally communicated his withdrawal to both the sacked National Chairman, Julius Abure, the caretaker Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and the primary election committee. The campaign organization stressed that there was no basis for including Nwosu in the primary or attributing any votes to him.

“We advise all Labour Party members in Anambra State, nationwide, and the general public to disregard any alleged votes allocated to Mr. John Chuma Nwosu. The aim is to give legitimacy to what we consider a farcical process,” Nwosu’s statement concluded.

As the November governorship election approaches, the dispute over the party’s primary results has added further tension to an already competitive political landscape in Anambra State.
