CURRENT REPORT BLOG Lagos government has taken a decisive step by closing a private hospital situated in Ago-Okota for its alarming practice of transfusing unscreened and unlabelled blood into patients. This measure was instigated by a concerned citizen’s tip-off, leading to the prompt action of the state’s Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA).

Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS), underscored the gravity of this situation. Such practices not only contravene the law but also pose severe health risks to unsuspecting patients. In response, efforts are underway to track and assess the clinical health status of individuals who received unscreened blood.

Moreover, Osikomaiya made it clear that the management of the hospital and individuals involved in these unscrupulous practices will face legal prosecution. The Lagos government remains resolute in its mission to eliminate unethical blood transfusion practices and uphold the highest standards of healthcare in the state.
