CURRENT REPORT BLOGĀ  The Lagos State Government has issued a 30-day notice to proprietors and occupants of residential structures converted without proper approval, urging them to restore the original intended use. In a statement released on Tuesday by the Director of Public Affairs, Olaoye Olusegun, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Gbolahan Oki, emphasized that the notice pertains to structures used as bars, clubhouses, or religious centers within residential areas lacking the requisite permits from relevant authorities.

Oki explained that the issuance of the notice is a response to the distortion of Lagos State’s master plan, particularly in residential areas, where individuals have, in blatant disregard of regulatory provisions, transformed residential areas into clubhouses and worship centres, causing environmental nuisances. The notice comes in light of citizens’ security concerns and complaints about non-compliance with safety and security guidelines issued to club owners. Oki warned that building owners who fail to revert the converted properties within the 30-day period will face the removal of such non-complying structures at their own expense, emphasizing the government’s commitment to preserving the integrity of residential areas and ensuring adherence to planning regulations.
