CurrentReprot Blog Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the establishment of Renewed Hope Creative Villages, a landmark initiative by the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy. This program is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to promote cultural tourism and boost Nigeria’s creative economy.
Speaking to reporters, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the collaboration between sub-national governments and the ministry to identify historic sites and transform them into thriving cultural hubs.
“The whole idea is for the ministry to collaborate with sub-national governments to identify these sites and historic locations and integrate them into the creative villages as one-stop shops,” he said.
The initiative aims to harness Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage by developing rural historic sites and monuments, offering immense potential for job creation. Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the creative industry could generate hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities while contributing significantly to economic growth.
Financial Updates from Finance Minister Wale Edun
In a related development, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed updates on the nation’s financial accounts and states’ indebtedness to the Federal Government.
- States’ Indebtedness: N16.6 billion
- Excess Crude Account: $424 million
- Stabilisation Account: N33.3 billion
- Natural Resources Account: N23 billion
Edun further noted that states currently hold surplus positions of N363.4 billion with the Federal Government, despite a deficit of N16.6 billion.
