The incident, involving an overturned truck loaded with food items, resulted in injuries to the driver and five passengers, highlighting the crucial role of emergency response teams in ensuring public safety on the roads.
The accident, which occurred due to the truck’s brake failure while at high speed, left the vehicle overturned on its side, with several individuals requiring immediate assistance. Fortunately, LASTMA officials were quick to the scene, swiftly coordinating rescue efforts to ensure the safety of the victims.
Under the leadership of Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the agency’s personnel sprang into action, managing the incident with precision and professionalism. Zebra Bakare Akanbi of LASTMA Zone 11, Ojota/Fadeyi, confirmed the successful rescue of the injured persons, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of various security agencies in the operation.
The seamless coordination between LASTMA officials and other emergency response units, including the Lagos State Ambulance Services, played a pivotal role in ensuring prompt medical attention for the injured individuals. Hakeem Adeosun, Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance at LASTMA, demonstrated effective leadership at the accident site, overseeing the clearance operations with diligence and expertise.
Following the incident, Olalekan Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended his sympathy to the victims and underscored the importance of proactive safety measures for all motorists. Oki emphasized the need for thorough safety checks, especially for heavy truck operators, to mitigate the risk of similar accidents in the future.
