CURRENT REPORT BLOG London Borough of Southwark Mayor, Mr. Michael Situ, has voiced his commitment to host the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK to address Nigeria’s out-of-school children crisis. The event, scheduled for early next year at the Southwark Civic Townhall, aims to showcase the Ibironke Adeagbo (IA)-Foundation’s efforts and garner support from the UK-based Nigerian diaspora. The initiative seeks to mobilize international backing, involving members of the UK Parliament, councillors, politicians, philanthropists, and corporate delegates, to contribute to building a robust educational system in Nigeria.
The IA-Foundation, founded in 2019 by Ibironke Adeagbo, a Nigerian born in England, has been actively tackling the out-of-school crisis in Nigeria. With an estimated 20.2 million out-of-school children reported by UNESCO in 2022, the foundation is dedicated to drawing global attention to the issue. Recent initiatives include hosting a summit in Lagos and plans for a fundraising event in March, aiming to pull more children off the streets and into classrooms. The foundation’s efforts align with a broader commitment from Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, to reposition the country positively in the education sector.
