CURRENT REPORT BLOG In response to the alarming surge in the cost of cement, Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called for an urgent meeting with Nigeria’s leading cement manufacturers. The meeting aims to address the concerning trend of escalating prices despite significant demand from road and housing contractors.

Scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Mabushi, Abuja, the gathering will bring together key players in the cement industry, including Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and other prominent manufacturers. The Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji, emphasized the critical nature of the meeting, highlighting the necessity for industry stakeholders to collaborate in finding solutions.

Minister Umahi expressed his apprehension regarding the steep rise in cement prices, characterizing the trend as “astronomical.” He acknowledged the challenges faced by manufacturers but stressed the urgency of bridging the gap between ex-factory prices and market rates.

The disparity, according to Umahi, warrants a comprehensive examination of the situation and other pertinent issues to establish a unified approach.
