CurrentReport Blog The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called for justice and adequate compensation for the victims of a tragic mob attack on travelers in Uromi, Edo State. The deadly incident, which left several people dead, has sparked outrage across the nation. The caucus has also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are held accountable.

In a statement released by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Minority Whip Ali Isa JC, and Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Sani Madaki, the lawmakers condemned the mob killings, describing the actions of the perpetrators as “reprehensible” and a direct threat to national unity. The attack occurred in the last few days and claimed the lives of at least 16 Nigerians, mostly northern hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, confirmed that 14 individuals have been arrested in connection with the mob attack. However, the Minority Caucus stressed the importance of ensuring that justice is not only served but is done swiftly and fairly to send a clear message that mob justice and such violent acts cannot be tolerated in Nigeria.

In their statement, the lawmakers expressed shock and deep grief over the killings, calling it a senseless and barbaric act that highlights a dangerous trend in the country. The caucus warned that if such violence continues unchecked, it could further destabilize the nation, undermining the peace and security that are essential for national unity.

The Minority Caucus also highlighted the importance of law enforcement and legal channels to address security concerns. They urged Nigerians to always seek lawful means to resolve disputes and not resort to mob justice, which only exacerbates the problems and leads to needless loss of lives.

As a nation committed to the rule of law, the caucus stressed that law enforcement agencies are always available to address security concerns through the proper legal channels. This statement aims to reassure the public that the government will take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The lawmakers further called on President Tinubu to ensure a swift and thorough investigation into the incident. They also demanded that the families of the victims receive adequate compensation for their losses, which they described as irreplaceable. The Minority Caucus believes that this action is crucial in restoring confidence in the nation’s security apparatus and in ensuring that justice is upheld.

The caucus appealed to the Nigerian public to remain calm and allow the authorities to handle the investigation. They offered their condolences to the grieving families of the victims, promising that they would remain vigilant and advocate for justice until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

In conclusion, the Minority Caucus emphasized the need for Nigeria to uphold its commitment to justice and the rule of law. The tragic mob attack in Uromi serves as a stark reminder that vigilant action must be taken to prevent violence and ensure the safety of all citizens. The demand for justice and compensation for the victims of this attack is not only a call for accountability but also a plea for national healing and unity.
