The call, made by NANS President Comrade Lucky Emonefe and President of the Senate Akinteye Afeez Babatunde, emphasizes the crucial need to invest in the country’s future.
The statement, which was shared on Tuesday, highlighted the increased allocations to state governments following the subsidy removal. NANS underscored the importance of directing these additional funds towards sectors that will foster sustainable growth and development.
Ensuring a Brighter Future
NANS argues that investing in education and youth development is paramount for Nigeria’s progress. The association believes that such investments will empower the next generation, enabling them to contribute effectively to the country’s sustainable growth.
“Investing in these areas will ensure a brighter future for our country and empower the next generation to drive sustainable growth,” the statement read.
Call for Accountability
NANS also urged Nigerian citizens to hold their state governors accountable for how the funds are being spent. The association stressed that transparency and accountability at the state level are essential to ensure that the increased allocations and bailout funds are used effectively for the benefit of the populace.
“It is imperative that citizens hold their state governments accountable, questioning how these funds and increased allocations are being utilized for the benefit of the populace,” NANS stated.
Focus on Federal and State Governments
The association called on Nigerians to focus not only on the Federal Government but also on their respective state governments. By doing so, NANS believes that transparency and accountability can be ensured in the utilization of funds.
“It is essential for Nigerians to direct their focus not only towards the Federal Government but also towards their state governments, ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilization of these funds,” the statement emphasized.
Support for Subsidy Removal
NANS urged students and the general public to disregard negative propaganda against the current administration. The association defended the subsidy removal as a necessary step towards sustainable economic growth amidst the challenging global economic climate.
“The removal of the subsidy is a necessary step towards sustainable economic growth. The current global economic climate is challenging, but the government is committed to finding ways to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
