CurrentReport Blog The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians to reconsider the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1st, 2024. He urged the public to give the government more time to address the nation’s pressing challenges.
In response to the planned hunger protest, Speaker Jatau emphasized the need for patience and understanding from the citizenry. He stated that allowing more time would enable the government to implement policies and programs aimed at improving the living standards of Nigerians.
“The current challenges facing our nation are indeed surmountable,” Jatau stated. “Both short-term and long-term measures are being put in place, and we need to give the government the necessary time to fix these issues.”
He highlighted the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. A.A. Sule, in rolling out various intervention programs to address hunger and economic hardship. “His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our own Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr A.A. Sule, are diligently working on initiatives that will alleviate these challenges,” he said.
Speaker Jatau appealed to Nigerians to support and pray for the government instead of protesting. “Prayer is key and a solution to every problem. Every leader needs the prayers and support of their people to succeed,” he noted. “I urge our citizens to give the government more time to implement more poverty eradication programs.”
Additionally, Jatau called on security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property and maintain peace across the country. He also urged religious, community, and political leaders to counsel their followers against participating in the protest, highlighting the potential negative consequences.
“I advise stakeholders, including political, religious, and traditional leaders, to collaborate with the government to address these challenges. They should speak to their followers about showing patience and understanding,” he added.
The Speaker assured that the 7th Assembly, under his leadership, is committed to supporting initiatives aimed at alleviating hardship and improving the standard of living for the people. “We will do everything humanly possible to improve the living conditions of our citizens,” Jatau concluded.
