CurrentReport Blog In a recent development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking across various states in Nigeria. The agency’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, revealed the details of these operations in a statement released from Abuja.
In Bayelsa State, three individuals were apprehended for their involvement in trafficking psychoactive substances concealed within noodles. Two of the suspects were intercepted at Swali Jetty, Yenagoa, on March 27. The seized substances, totaling 73.425kg, included codeine, molly, tramadol, and diazepam. Additionally, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of another suspect in Amasoma, Yenagoa, with drugs concealed in jumbo sacks transported via a tricycle.
Meanwhile, in Orile Imo, Ogun State, two suspects were detained on March 29 for possession of 137 blocks of suspected Indian hemp, weighing 71kg. In Taraba, the NDLEA confiscated 39,980 pills of tramadol from a 33-year-old suspect in Lankaviri village, along with the arrest of a 29-year-old individual in Wukari with 131kg of Indian hemp on March 28.
Further expanding their crackdown, NDLEA operatives apprehended a 28-year-old man in Abia on March 29 at Akara Ahuba, Isikwuato Local Government Area. The seizure yielded 46.65kg of Indian hemp, along with various quantities of tramadol, methamphetamine, Rohypnol, and N71,500 in cash.
