CurrentReport Blog The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) successfully rescued and repatriated 17 Nigerian women trafficked to Ghana, with the help of the Ghanaian Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra. Five suspected traffickers were apprehended during the operation, which took place in Kpone Katamanso, Tema.

NiDCOM reports that this mission brings the total number of Nigerian women rescued from trafficking in Ghana to 130 since July 2024. NiDCOM representative Akinboye Akinsola escorted the women back to Nigeria, where they were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for rehabilitation.

The victims, aged between 18 and 29 and originating from states like Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Edo, and Ebonyi, were reportedly deceived with false promises of employment in Ghana and bound by oaths of secrecy.

NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed her gratitude to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support and praised the efforts of the Ghanaian authorities and NIDO Ghana. Under Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, NiDCOM remains committed to the welfare of Nigerians abroad. Additionally, NiDCOM recently facilitated the return of two young Nigerian men, with one receiving rehabilitation and family reintegration assistance from NIDO Ghana in Anambra.
