CurrentReport Blog Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sorrow following a devastating petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Agaie Local Government Area, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, livestock, and property. The incident, which took place on Sunday at around 12:30 a.m., claimed the lives of over 30 individuals and saw 50 cattle burned alive, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago conveyed his grief over the unfortunate accident and the substantial damage it caused. He assured the public that the state government, in collaboration with NSEMA and other relevant agencies, had swiftly mobilized rescue operations at the scene to provide necessary assistance.
The governor urged residents of Agaie and road users to remain calm and to adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent further accidents. He extended his heartfelt prayers for the repose of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
NSEMA’s Director General, Abdullahi Baba Arab, confirmed the scale of the disaster, which occurred about 2 kilometers from Dendo Community in Agaie. The agency is continuing its efforts to manage the aftermath of the explosion, providing support to affected families and working to restore normalcy in the area.
