In a joint operation between the Nigeria Police Force – National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) and the South Australian Police Department (SAPOL), a 37-year-old individual named Ogenevowero Emefeke has been apprehended in the Guida Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The arrest stems from Emefeke’s involvement in an intricate romance scam targeting an Australian citizen.

According to CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the successful capture of the suspect was made possible through actionable intelligence provided by SAPOL. In a statement issued on Monday, May 22, 2023, Adejobi revealed that a total of sixty thousand Australian Dollars (60,000.00 AUD) was recovered from Emefeke, further solidifying his involvement in the fraudulent scheme.

The collaborative efforts between Nigerian and Australian law enforcement agencies highlight the global nature of cybercrime and the determination to bring perpetrators to justice. The arrest serves as a reminder of the commitment to combat online scams and protect potential victims from financial and emotional harm.

The Nigeria Police Force and its international partners continue to work tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks involved in cyber fraud, ensuring the safety and security of individuals both at home and abroad.
