CurrentReport Blog The Federal Government of Nigeria has implemented a stricter immigration policy to address the growing issue of visa overstays in the country. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that while Nigeria’s visa-on-arrival policy remains in place, the government is taking a more firm approach to enforce visa regulations.

Speaking on Arise TV, Tunji-Ojo clarified that foreigners who overstay their visas will now face significant consequences. Specifically, anyone who exceeds their visa duration by three months will be banned from entering Nigeria for five years. Additionally, those who stay in the country illegally for a year will face a 10-year entry ban.

The new policy is part of the government’s efforts to tighten immigration controls and ensure that visitors comply with Nigerian visa rules. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of maintaining a secure and orderly immigration system while encouraging lawful travel to Nigeria.

“These measures are designed to ensure that Nigeria’s immigration laws are respected,” the Minister stated.

As the government moves to crack down on visa violations, both travelers and immigration authorities are expected to closely monitor the new guidelines.
