CurrentReport Blog The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) has announced that the Federal Government is poised to ink a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Government. The aim is to spearhead the development of the palm biomass sector within the country.
Ambassador Alphonsus Inyang, President of NPPAN, shared these insights during an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday. Inyang underscored the immense economic potential of palm biomass, labeling it as a multi-billion dollar industry.
“In simple terms, biomass refers to agricultural waste, and we are focused on transforming waste into wealth,” Inyang affirmed.
He elaborated that NPPAN is collaborating closely with its Malaysian counterpart to emulate the success of Malaysia’s palm biomass initiatives in Nigeria. Inyang projected that the advancement of palm biomass could inject a staggering $10 billion into the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP) within a span of four years. Moreover, he forecasted the creation of over five million employment opportunities within the subsequent five years.
Highlighting Nigeria’s substantial annual agricultural waste output, Inyang emphasized that formalizing the MoU would pave the way for the production of industrial goods, electricity generation, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizers, mirroring the achievements seen in Malaysia.
