- CurrentReport Blog The Nigerian Army has reassured residents of Enugu State, particularly those in the Udi Local Government Area and adjoining councils, regarding an upcoming training exercise. Scheduled from March 18 to March 21, the Range Classification Exercise aims to enhance the proficiency of army personnel and evaluate weapon functionality.
Despite the heavy troop movement and gunshot sounds expected during this period, residents are urged not to panic, as these activities are part of the routine training procedure.
According to Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, the acting Deputy Director of the 82 Division Army Public Relations, the exercise will take place at the Army Training Area in Udi. Communities such as Ogbede, Ukehe, Umoka, Afa, Ochima, and Onyohor may witness increased military activity during the specified dates. Unuakhalu emphasized that the use of live ammunition is integral to the training, highlighting the importance of residents staying away from the designated range area for their safety.
The primary objective of the Range Classification Exercise aligns with the Army Headquarters Training Directives for the year 2024. By focusing on weapon proficiency and marksmanship skills, the training aims to enhance the capabilities of army personnel. Additionally, the evaluation of weapon serviceability ensures that the equipment remains operational and effective for future deployments.
The Nigerian Army encourages residents to remain calm and cooperative throughout the exercise. Understanding the significance of the training to national security, residents are advised to refrain from unnecessary panic upon witnessing heavy troop movements or hearing gunfire. By adhering to safety precautions and avoiding the range area, residents can contribute to the smooth conduct of the exercise while ensuring their own well-being.
