CurrentReport Blog The Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Michael Anugwa, has denied reports of his suspension over alleged bribery involving popular crossdresser Bobrisky. Anugwa, who oversees the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, dismissed the rumors as unfounded social media claims during a hearing with the House of Representatives committee investigating the case on September 30, 2024.

The controversy stems from an audio recording leaked by social media critic VeryDarkMan, in which Bobrisky allegedly confessed to bribing prison officials with N15 million to serve his four-month jail term, imposed in April 2024 for naira misuse, in a private apartment. Bobrisky also mentioned being approached by singer Falz for a presidential pardon facilitated by Falz’s father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, for an additional N10 million.

In response to the widespread backlash, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the suspension of Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, during a press conference in Abuja. However, Anugwa clarified that he had not received any formal suspension letter and dismissed the claims as mere speculation.
