Nigerian Correctional Service Releases Names of 18 Inmates Who Escaped from Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre

Current Report Blog The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has published the names of 18 inmates who escaped from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre in Niger State. This revelation follows the dramatic prison break on April 24, 2024, which saw a total of 119 inmates flee after a severe rainstorm compromised the facility’s security.

The heavy downpour caused significant structural damage to the custodial centre, leading to a breach in the perimeter fence. This breach provided an opportunity for the inmates to escape. Immediate efforts to reapprehend the escapees resulted in the capture of 10 inmates the following day, with three more recaptured later that same day.

As of June 6, 2024, the NCoS Spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, reported that 23 escapees had been recaptured in total. Despite these efforts, a significant number of inmates remain at large.

On June 15, 2024, the NCoS updated its official website, revealing the details of 18 out of the 96 remaining fugitives. The disclosed names are expected to aid both law enforcement and the general public in their efforts to locate and apprehend the escapees.
