CurrentReport Blog The Nigerian government has taken a major step toward reducing the country’s high maternal mortality rate by making Cesarean Sections (C-sections) free for all women in need. This policy, announced on Thursday, was confirmed by Muhammad Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, during a three-day Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja.
Minister Pate emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to lowering maternal and newborn mortality rates nationwide. “No woman should lose her life simply because she cannot afford a C-section,” he stated, underlining the government’s dedication to accessible and affordable healthcare for all Nigerian women.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare echoed the announcement on its official social media handle, declaring, “In a powerful move, Coordinating Minister @muhammadpate just announced that Cesarean Sections for all Nigerian women who need them will now be FREE!”
