CurrentReport Blog In a decisive move to curb the #EndBadGovernance protests, the Nigerian Government has identified and placed sponsors, particularly those in the Diaspora, on a watchlist. This announcement was made by Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), during a strategic meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Kemi Nandap disclosed that these individuals would be arrested upon entry into Nigeria. “We have Diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted, any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority,” she stated.
This development comes as part of a broader crackdown order issued by President Bola Tinubu. The meeting, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, included heads of intelligence and security agencies.
In response to the protests, the Immigration Service has increased the deployment of officers at land borders and airports to monitor the country’s entry and exit points more effectively. Nandap emphasized that surveillance has been heightened to prevent foreign intervention.
The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, represented by DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, revealed that the agency had identified several sponsors and blocked some bank accounts linked to them. While detailed information was not disclosed, Bichi confirmed that some of the individuals behind these accounts are based abroad and are under strict surveillance.
