CurrentReport Blog Abuja, Nigeria — The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 7, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a full investigation into allegations of a N2.3 million extortion incident involving officers from the Zone 7 Police Command in Abuja. The order follows a public outcry on social media by X user Harrison Gwamnishu (@HarrisonBbi18), who accused the officers of forcing a man, Nwosu Ndubuisi, to sell his laptop at Banex Plaza to secure his bail.

The Zone 7 Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP M.B Abdulkadir, confirmed in a statement on Monday that an investigation is underway. “AIG Benneth C. Igweh has ordered a full investigation into this allegation, and the public will be updated on the progress accordingly,” the statement reads. Abdulkadir also emphasized that AIG Igweh upholds a zero-tolerance stance against corruption, extortion, and human rights abuses within the force.

The statement assured the public that the AIG is a strict disciplinarian and is committed to maintaining integrity within Zone 7. “The Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, under the leadership of AIG Benneth C. Igweh, will never tolerate any act of extortion, corruption, indiscipline, or human rights abuse,” Abdulkadir reiterated.
