Nigerians are free to video, photograph officers on duty – Police

CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Nigeria Police Force has affirmed citizens’ right to record videos and take photographs of police officers during their duty, as clarified by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi. This statement was issued in response to a social media post where a user claimed to have been extorted by police officers for capturing them during a stop-and-search operation. Adejobi emphasised that such documentation is not considered an offence, and individuals facing harassment for exercising this right are encouraged to report the incident to the police authority. The clarification aims to assure Nigerians that they can hold law enforcement accountable by recording and reporting any inappropriate behaviour.
