CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast that is crucial for residents across Nigeria, as it anticipates a significant dust haze event from Tuesday to Thursday.

Released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet’s latest weather outlook provides detailed predictions on the dust haze’s impact on visibility and the areas most affected.

“For Wednesday, thick dust haze is expected to reduce horizontal visibility to 1km or less in the northern region and North Central states within the forecast period.

“Moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1km is expected over the Inland region and coastal areas of the South throughout the forecast period,” it said.

This atmospheric condition is expected to blanket the entire nation, affecting daily activities and possibly hindering transportation services due to reduced visibility.

The forecast is particularly concerning for the northern region of Nigeria, where a thick dust haze is expected to dramatically reduce horizontal visibility to 1km or less on Tuesday. Such low visibility levels pose risks for road travelers and may affect flight schedules, urging caution among residents and visitors alike.

Moving beyond the northern region, the North Central and Southern parts of Nigeria are also bracing for moderate dust haze conditions.

NiMet predicts a horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km in these areas, with the possibility of localized visibility dropping to less than or equal to 1km during the forecast period.

These conditions suggest that the dust haze will not only be a concern for the northern region but will also significantly affect central and southern Nigeria.

NiMet expects patches of mist or fog in the early morning across the southern coastal regions, followed by cloudy patches in the hazy air later on.
