CurrentReport Blog The Caretaker Chairman of the Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), Nduka Aguofia, has announced the closure of the community’s town hall and the suspension of all town union activities to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
This decision follows a recent court judgment that ousted the leadership of Dan Anakpe, who previously led the NTDU. Aguofia revealed that the royal cabinet made the resolution to maintain peace and ensure compliance with the court’s ruling.
Leadership Crisis Escalates in Nimo
Nimo, like several other communities in Anambra State, has been grappling with a protracted leadership tussle. The crisis took a sharp turn recently, with residents reporting an increase in criminal activities. In response, soldiers were invited to bolster security in the area.
The invitation of military personnel sparked protests from some quarters, raising questions about the motives of those opposing the measure.
Royal Cabinet’s Directive
To forestall further unrest, the royal cabinet of Nimo ordered the suspension of all town union activities throughout the festive season. Aguofia stressed that the caretaker committee would not tolerate any act of violence or defiance of the royal cabinet’s directive.
“The recent court judgment has brought an end to the leadership crisis rocking the NTDU. We urge all parties to respect the ruling and work towards a peaceful resolution,” Aguofia said.
He added that the town hall would remain closed until a higher court overturns the current judgment.
Call for Unity and Rule of Law
Aguofia urged all residents to support the caretaker committee’s efforts to maintain order and ensure progress in Nimo.
“Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Nimo Town. We must respect the rule of law and work towards a common goal,” he said.
Moving Forward
As Nimo Town enters the Yuletide season under these new directives, the caretaker chairman remains firm in his commitment to upholding the law and fostering peace within the community.
