CurrentReport Blog In a recent announcement by Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigerian Police Force has made substantial progress in combatting crime across the nation. Among the notable achievements, nine suspects have been apprehended in connection to the tragic murder of six police personnel on February 26 during a special operation at Evil Forest in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State.
The arrests come as part of a broader crackdown, with a total of 3,685 criminal suspects being brought into custody over the past eight weeks. The operations have resulted in the rescue of 401 kidnapped victims, the recovery of 216 various firearms, 3,601 pieces of ammunition, and the retrieval of 82 vehicles.
Inspector General Egbetokun outlined the grim reality of crime statistics during the period, with 141 recorded cases of terrorism and secessionist attacks, 537 cases of murder, 126 cases of armed robbery, 214 cases of kidnapping, and 39 cases of unlawful possession of firearms.
Expressing deep condolences to the families of the fallen officers, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the resolve of the Police Force to pursue justice relentlessly. He stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time. I like to firmly reiterate that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the killers of these personnel, and many others, do not escape the long arms of the law.”
