CurrentReport Blog Nollywood legend Hanks Anuku has opened up about his personal life, revealing his desire to remarry but expressing a reluctance to marry a Nigerian woman. The veteran actor, who has been divorced for over a decade, shared the reasons behind his decision during a candid discussion on the popular Nollywood Hardcore show, The Legend’s Untold Story.
Anuku, who rose to fame in the Nollywood industry through his roles in countless blockbuster films, reflected on the pain and psychological trauma he experienced following the failure of his first marriage to his ex-wife from Asaba. The actor admits that the breakdown of his marriage has left him scarred and hesitant about entering into another relationship with a Nigerian woman.
Trauma from Past Marriage
Hanks Anuku’s first marriage ended more than 10 years ago, and the actor admits it left an emotional toll on him. The trauma of the failed marriage has caused him to be apprehensive about getting involved with Nigerian women again. He explains, “I’m scared of Nigerian women. I went through a lot of psychological trauma and all that. I never expected that I was going to be separated from her. It hurt me. But I had to move on.”
Anuku went on to clarify that his first marriage was a “wrong marriage” and that it ended because of incompatibility. He also stated that while the mother of his children is a significant part of his life, they are no longer romantically involved. Despite having two children with her, Anuku emphasized that their relationship is more of a friendship, not one that he believes would lead to marriage. He said, “The mother of my kids is not the kind of woman I want to get married to. We are just friends.”
Love and Compatibility
The Nollywood legend stated that his primary desire is to be in a loving and happy marriage. Reflecting on his previous relationships, Anuku noted that while he had dated someone for a few years after his divorce, he ultimately knew she wasn’t the right person for him. For the actor, love is not just about infatuation but about compatibility and what he refers to as agape love – the highest form of love.
Anuku confessed that despite having a long history of relationships, he has not yet found a partner he is truly compatible with. He explained, “I like to be in love with somebody, not just be infatuated. Agape love, the greatest of love, is what I want in any woman I’m going to get married to.”
Preference for Caucasian Women
Anuku has also made it clear that his experiences abroad have led him to develop a preference for Caucasian women. Reflecting on his time living overseas, the actor shared that he found himself more compatible with Caucasian women and had several female friends from that background. He admitted, “I found myself a lot more compatible with Caucasian women. When I was overseas, I never dated any coloured woman. Blonde women are my specs.”
The actor further explained that the demands and pressures he faced in his previous marriage, including financial expectations and jealousy over his career, made him wary of entering into another relationship with a Nigerian woman. His ex-wife had reportedly demanded money frequently and asked him to quit acting due to jealousy over the attention he received from other women.
Moving Forward: No Plans for Marriage Yet
Although Hanks Anuku is open to the idea of remarriage in the future, he insists that he will only marry someone who aligns with his values and desires for compatibility and love. He is not rushing into another marriage and remains focused on his happiness. He also mentioned that he has not ruled out finding a partner while on vacation, suggesting that he may be open to new possibilities.
“I’m not married yet,” he concluded, “but I would like to find someone I’m compatible with, who understands me and loves me for who I am.”
As Hanks Anuku continues to reflect on his past relationships and look towards the future, it’s clear that the actor is in search of more than just companionship – he’s seeking a deep, lasting connection with someone who shares his values and emotional needs.
In a world where personal relationships can sometimes be complex, Anuku’s story highlights the importance of compatibility and understanding in choosing a life partner. Whether he finds that special someone remains to be seen, but for now, the Nollywood star is content living life on his own terms.
