CurrentReport Blog The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has confirmed that there have been no reports of vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) during the ongoing protests in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Inspection of Critical National Assets

Following a thorough inspection on Friday, Dr. Odumosu visited key infrastructure sites across Abuja, including:

  • Railway Stations: Wupa, Kukwaba 1 and 2, Bassanjiwa, Gwagwa, and Idu.
  • Government and Utility Buildings: Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Wuse, FCT Water Board in Asokoro, and the Abuja Central Mosque.

Commendation for Peaceful Protests

Dr. Odumosu praised the protesters for maintaining peace and not disrupting activities at the railway stations during the first day of the protests. He emphasized the collective responsibility to protect CNAI, noting that these amenities are provided for the public good.

“We discovered that none of the railway corridors were tampered with by miscreants during the day-1 protest but day-2 is still ongoing. We have a collective duty to protect CNAI as these amenities were provided with our common wealth,” he stated.

Zero Tolerance for Destruction

While acknowledging the right of citizens to peaceful protests, Dr. Odumosu warned against any attempts to destroy government properties and installations. He expressed concern over incidents such as the attack on motorists in Lugbe and the burning of private vehicles in Nyanya on Thursday.

During the visit to the Idu railway station, the Director of Transport for the FCT Administration (FCTA), Engr. Joseph Akinteye, lauded the NSCDC personnel for their vigilance and dedication in protecting the railway stations.

“We have not had any case of vandalism in a long while, this shows the commitment of your men in securing critical infrastructure in the FCT,” Akinteye commented.
