During the meeting, Governor Abiodun officially named Anthony Joshua as Ogun State’s Sports Ambassador. He also invited the boxing champion to light the torch for the Gateway Games National Sports Festival, which has been postponed to May 2025.
“We are going to construct a brand-new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in Abeokuta to ensure you come home more frequently,” the governor said. He also announced that Joshua would receive a new house in Sagamu, his hometown, as part of the recognition.
Plans for the Gateway Games National Sports Festival
Governor Abiodun highlighted the state’s preparations for the Gateway Games National Sports Festival, which Ogun State successfully won the bid to host. Initially scheduled for January 2025, the festival has been postponed to May due to technical reasons.
