CurrentReport Blog The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has hailed the non-participation of the entire South-East region in the recent nationwide EndBadGovernance protest. The protest, which spanned from August 1st to 10th, witnessed widespread participation across various parts of Nigeria but was notably shunned by the South-East.

In a press briefing on Sunday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, emphasized that the decision to abstain from the protest was a deliberate and strategic move by the Ndigbo community. According to him, this action was a clear demonstration of the love and support that the Igbo people have for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Nnabuike disclosed that the Igbo youth group held a series of consultations with various affiliate youth organizations across the South-East. These discussions culminated in a unanimous decision to not partake in the protest, as it was deemed unnecessary.

“We took this stand to make Mr. President understand clearly that we are solidly behind his government,” Nnabuike stated. He further explained that the decision was not taken lightly, and it involved extensive engagements with traditional, religious, and community leaders, as well as market unions and civil society organizations (CSOs).

The youth leader expressed his gratitude to all the affiliate bodies of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, including religious and traditional groups, market unions, and CSOs, for heeding their call to abstain from the protest. He reiterated that this move was to showcase the South-East’s unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration.

However, Nnabuike also called on the Tinubu administration to reciprocate the love and support shown by the South-East. He urged the government to address key issues affecting the region, including the creation of an additional state for the South-East, correction of imbalances in federal appointments, the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the adequate funding of the South-East Development Commission to spur infrastructural development.

The non-participation of the South-East in the EndBadGovernance protest has been described as historical, marking a significant moment in the political landscape of Nigeria. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide’s stance reflects a strategic alignment with the current administration, emphasizing the region’s commitment to national unity and progress.
