CURRENT REPORT BLOG In a tragic incident, 45-year-old Police Inspector Festus Onori was allegedly lynched by a group of suspected Okada riders in Delta State. The incident occurred while he was on his way to Sunday church service with his wife and children in Ogwashi-Uku.
The chain of events began when a collision happened between Inspector Onori’s car and a commercial motorcyclist in Okpanam. Concerned for the motorcyclist’s well-being, Inspector Onori stopped his car to assess the situation.
However, the situation escalated rapidly. A group of about 20 young men armed with sticks and clubs began chasing him. To escape, Inspector Onori drove away, but the pursuit continued.
Despite changing routes, the chase persisted, leading to his vehicle running out of fuel in Ogwashi-Uku. He was mobbed by over 200 pursuers and met a tragic end. His car was also destroyed.
