CurrentReport Blog In a wave of relief to fans and the Nollywood community, Betty Irabor, founder of Genevieve Magazine, has refuted the circulating rumors about the death of Nollywood icon Olu Jacobs. Social media had been abuzz with false reports claiming that the beloved actor passed away at 82 on Sunday.
Olu Jacobs, a celebrated figure in Nigerian cinema, has been battling dementia in recent years, a fact that has prompted frequent unfounded speculation about his health. Irabor took to Twitter to set the record straight, assuring everyone that “Olu Jacobs is well and alive. Please ignore all rumours of his passing.”
To further dispel the misinformation, Jacobs’ family released a video showing the actor in good spirits, effectively quelling the unfounded claims.
Jacobs’ wife, fellow actress Joke Silva, has been open about his health struggles. Speaking candidly last year, she described the profound impact of his condition on their lives. “It hasn’t been easy. There was a point of acceptance for me that everything happening is reality and it is like the person I married, 80 per cent of the time is no longer there,” Silva said, highlighting the challenges brought by his ailment.
