CurrentReport Blog On Monday, activist Omoyele Sowore commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for inadvertently mobilizing Nigerians for the upcoming August 1 #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. This reaction came after the DSS detained one of the protest mobilizers, known on social media as @Mallam_jabeer.
The news of @Mallam_jabeer’s detention was shared by X user @n6oflife6, who posted, “I just got a call from @Mallam_jabeer that he has been detained by the DSS. This young man is peaceful and has been law-abiding over his protest arrangements. Arresting him before August 1 makes no sense. Efforts are being made to get him released. Nigeria we Hail Thee.”
Sowore responded to the incident by tweeting, “The @OfficialDSSNG is doing a fantastic job mobilizing for the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria revolt. #FreeJabirNow.”
The planned protest on August 1 aims to address the widespread hardship and suffering many Nigerians are experiencing under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Despite Tinubu’s appeal for Nigerians to cancel the protest and give his administration more time to improve the economy, the discontent among citizens continues to grow.
As the date approaches, the detention of protest organizers like @Mallam_jabeer has only fueled the determination of Nigerians to voice their dissatisfaction and demand better governance. The actions of the DSS have inadvertently highlighted the movement, drawing more attention to the cause and mobilizing greater support.
