Ondo NNPP Governorship Candidate Criticizes Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Appointment of 344 Special Assistants

CurrentReport Blog The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Olugbenga Edema, has condemned the recent appointment of 344 Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Edema described the appointments as “misguided and insensitive,” especially amid the state’s current economic challenges.

Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the appointments, which cover all 18 local government areas, 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and 203 political wards. He emphasized that the move was intended to enhance governance. However, Edema expressed concerns over the financial strain these appointments would place on the state’s resources.

The spokesperson for Edema’s campaign organization, Oluwatosin Ayeni, questioned the timing of the appointments, which comes just three months before the upcoming governorship election. Edema argued that the resources could have been better spent on sectors like education, healthcare, or infrastructure.

Edema further alleged that Aiyedatiwa’s appointments might be politically motivated, claiming they serve as campaign coordinators under the guise of government roles. “This represents a gross misdirection of government priorities,” he said.
