The fintech firm Opay experienced an outage for over an hour on Monday evening, preventing Nigerians from conducting money transfers through its app. Concerns and apprehensions were voiced on various social media platforms during this period.
A Twitter user, @8jagistplug, expressed uncertainty, stating, “I don’t understand what Opay is doing tonight; let me sleep and wake up first. Please, let nothing happen to my 1.5 Billion.”
Similarly, @iamvinicius_snr remarked, “If Opay crashes, the number of small businesses that would be affected would be significant.”
@cajal_ebuara shared a concern about a transfer, stating, “Please, I made a transfer of 80k from my Opay, and I haven’t received the money in my other account, and the most scary thing is that it’s not showing in my transactions!”
Opay, addressing the situation through its app, clarified that the disruption was due to maintenance activities and assured users that all services would be restored promptly. The statement read: “Dear user, the system is currently under maintenance, and all services will be restored soon. Please bear with us.”
