CurrentReport Blog Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has refuted rumors of his death, following his prolonged absence from Nigeria during a personal vacation. The former governor of Abia State clarified that he had taken an educational leave with the permission of Senate President Godswill Akpabio to pursue academic studies.
Addressing the media at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kalu explained that he spent two months abroad attending courses. He emphasized that his absence was solely for academic purposes, stating:
“Listen, there was nothing wrong with me. I took permission from the Senate President about seven days before the Senate closed. I went for a little study at one of the universities, which I paid for myself.”
He further elaborated that he took courses focused on democracy and the economy, making productive use of the holiday period.
In response to rumors circulating about his health, Kalu said, “I did not die. I didn’t go for any medical check-up, but if people say I have died, we give thanks to God.”
